Claim:
Those opposed to illegal immigration are opposed to immigration in general or even to immigrants themselves
Summary:
Almost always false
Another nomenclature issue is to incorrectly refer to someone or some thing "anti-immigrant" or "anti-immigration". The first word means opposition to immigrants, and the second means opposition to immigration. Obviously, very few people are opposed to either. Both are smears, with the first being worse than the second.
If someone is indeed opposed to "immigrants" or "immigration", then those are correct terms. But, in most cases the correct term should be: "anti-illegal immigration".
